Op-Ed Columnist David Brooks- The Two Obamas - NYTimes.com

David Brooks nails the truth once more. Obama is a two-faced, not-to-be-trusted Chicago politician as Brooks aptly describes. But do those Americans who vote their emotions rather than their minds and facts care? I certainly hope so, but I doubt that this will matter to many of his rabid supporters.

Obama's blatant renouncing of public campaign funding reveals his true colors given his history on the issue. The Republicans should have a field day with this, but the media reaction is predictably tame.

With this flip-flop, Obama has shown clearly that he cannot be trusted. This issue should be in his face cointinually by the media, but they won't do it.

The issue is that the Republican Party has spent the last 8 years discrediting itself. Lacking a parliamentary form of government where we can say "no thanks, please try again", Obama will be the "no" vote for many. I would have liked to see a new breed of Republican emerge in this election, but honestly McCain will at the very least sweep in with another Cheneyesque team, if not leading us with another 4 years of Bush type policies. Yet, I can't quite vote for Obama just to send a message to the party. So likely my vote ends up going with Nader. It's a sad commentary on the state of affairs in the US when one can't even elect to pursue a "vote for whomever is less evil" candidate within the two major parties. The major parties have learned to game the voting public to the point that a true majority no longer seems possible :-(

I share your sentiment about Mr Brooks - nice to see clear headed thinking in print.

I am disappointed in the quality of presidential candidates as well as the length of this season's primaries. I think the best people don't run because they are unwilling to personally join the political system.

Republican and Democrat leaders frequently discredit themselves, our American ideals and their parties by their insatiable quest for power.

The daunting fiscal issues facing our nation seldom are addressed or debated. Sadly, our media is absorbed more in the cult of personality, gender, race and ethnicity than substance.

I wish I were more optimistic in this election, but I'm not.
