Vermont's Electricty Needs and Sources

Our current mix (2/3 from hydro and nuclear) of baseload electrical energy sources is optimum. Vermont policy makers should be working hard right now to maintain that mix as we approach the expiration of contracts with Hydro Quebec and Vermont Yankee's license. Wind is a 'feel-good' non-starter for Vermont's growing energy needs...in the same category as solar. Both are emotionally attractive, but can only be bit players, never a significant factor to satisfy Vermont's needs.

In any event, expect dramatically higher prices for electricity five years hence as the demand continues to increase.
