We're all to blame for this financial mess - MarketWatch

Here's another author playing the blame game. He spreads it around most generously!

Is it pointless to spend time trying to determine what actually caused the problem? Maybe. Leadership is forward-looking. But even a leader should know the ultimate cause. Maybe we can't ever know for sure.

I agree that ultimately if it was all Bush's fault, this would be the result of 'we the people' electing him in the first place. I believe it all does go back to each an every one of us.

But sometimes our leaders don't do as we expect them to. The bailout is an example. Most people evidently did not want to pass the bailout bill but they did it anyway.

Another example is the US people voting in Dems to try to get some control on Bush but they did nothing.

I am a non-partisan. A moderate. I take no sides and try to call things as I see them, one issue at a time. I see the dangers of "liberals" and "conservatives". My favorite writer now is the conservative Thomas Sowell...

I truly believe that if Bush had not sent us to Iraq and had focused on building the economy, not letting the finance sector go wild, we would not be in such a mess today. I dislike Bush so profoundly!

I don't think Obama is ready to solve all the problems, but he might do fairly well.

Toby,
This crisis is grist for the pundits' mill. They will write about and talk about it every which way to Sunday.

I know this is a 'down' time generally, but neither McCain nor Obama can fix this. We are presented with suboptimal choices for leadership in the U.S. The best people don't run, preferring to have someone else go through the agony of a 20 month campaign.

Now that we have 'won' in Iraq, the news media generally forget about the fact that this is happening. Instead they foocus on where we're 'losing,' Afghanistan.

Of course, we could cocoon and say forget about the rest of the world, but I think it's essential to do everything possible to keep the terrorist bastards at bay and to kill their leaders wherever we find them.

On that score it will be very interesting to see what Obama, if elected, will do about our policy of preemption, which is the fundamental basis for our involvements in both those wars.

And notice how both campaigns have ignored the problem of illegal immigration? Isn't this a major problem that the candidates should be talking about? Why don't they?

Ah well, life goes on, but never under the same conditions.
