Warning, Spying and Hectoring - New York Times

I have great respect for Walker who I had seen several months ago on C-SPAN testifying before Congress on the crisis ahead for Medicare and Social Security. We have a disaster looming and America, including the Congress, has its head in the sand. We need to rethink our future. The candidates for President and Congress in 2008 had better get their act together and propose sane programs rather than play politics as usual.

"But however loud, logical or well presented the arguments may be, the lack of government action seems to some to come from a systemic fault in modern American politics.

'There is not much courage out there,' said Brian M. Riedl of the Heritage Foundation, speaking at the Minneapolis event. 'Like an alcoholic, the first thing you have to do is admit you have a problem. The flip side of it is, Americans are vehemently opposed to every possible solution.'"
